Here is the route we plan to use. It is taken from http://adventurecycling.org/routes/southerntier.cfm. This site has great maps and other cool things for people looking to tour. They have multiple routes and maps available for purchase. We decided to do the southern tier route because of the time of season (winter). Funny story: when we were in San Diego a few weeks ago we were walking along Pacific Beach (where this route ends in San Diego) and saw a father/daughter pair finishing this very route!  I had a chance to talk to them and ask a few questions about the route. What are the chances of running into someone finishing the very route we are planning to start?

Introduction

We are a few short weeks away from leaving on our bike trip. Our trip will leave from St. Augustine, FL and end in San Diego, CA. When we arrive in San Diego we will be staying in the area. Natalie and I will both be working there for at least the next year. We plan to ride around 60-70 miles per day which should allow us to finish this trip in around 60 days. We plan to camp most of the way but plan to stay indoors in bad weather or in dangerous areas. We are both excited about taking off on this adventure.  I plan to update this blog 2-3 times per week when we have Internet access. This will either be at libraries or motels since neither of us are bringing our computers. Neither of us have done a long touring trip like this so a lot of things will be trial-and-error. Wish us luck and I hope to keep everyone updated on our plans!
